Day 2 Update:
Day two saw all six teams taking the field for the three games starting at 9:00am. Cornwall matched up against South Ottawa, Oakville matched up against East Nepean and the final game of the day saw Thuder Bay facing West Turtle Club. Thunder Bay had a long wait before playing thier first inning of the tournament due to thier game from Day 1 being rescheduled and they were scheduled for the last game of Day 2. The games were long in nature due to the number of runs being scored and the many pitching changes throughout the day.
The evening wrapped up with the player banquet which was hosted by Oakville Little League at LeDome Banquet Hall. The event was fully attended by all teams, parents and committee members. The players enjoyed a wonderful meal and the evening was capped off with player participation medal presentations and player draws for prizes. The evening wrapped up with the players retiring to thier hotels for the evening to rest up for Day 3.
Day 1 Update:
The tournament got underway promptly at 12:00pm with East Nepean Eagles taking on the Cornwall Black Sox. After a few innings, we experienced our first of three rain delays of the day. The torrential rains, high winds and thunder. The first delay was two hours and once the weathr cleared, the Town of Oakville grounds crew did an amazing job at preparing the diamonds which were totally under water for the game to be resumed. After about 2 additional innings, we experienced an electrical storm with more rain which delayed the game yet again. After a lengthy delay, the game finally resumed. The game was one out away from the game being completed when we experienced yet another lightening strike which caused our third delay. When all was said and done, the first game resumed and was completed at approximatley 7:45PM. We believe this may have been one of the longest if not the longeest games in the history of the Senior Provincials. The 3:00PM game started at 8:30Pm and after three innings, the District Administrator, Bob MacDonald determined that there would not be enough time left to play game three so the game has been rescheduled to Monday, August 2nd. The volunteer crew of the tournament cleaned up and called it a day at 11:30Pm. The rest of the week looks promising from a weather perspective so we are looking forward to some great ball being played. Come out and cheer on the teams as they continue play for the senior Provincial Championship.
